Saturday 11th - bike ***** - Early morning Two Rivers ride from the Orwell to the Deben – Sunny start followed by clouding over later.

Woke to a sunny morning and as it is the weekend, we decide to get out early on our bikes to avoid the crowds, so with flask made we leave home at 6.30. We are soon down on the prom at the end of our road and our surprised how busy it is considering how early it is, there are still people about like us that are still nervous of Covid and are keen to still take care! With the wind NW, dead offshore it was a pleasant ride to the end of the prom, this is an underestimated direction for windsurfing at Felixstowe and can’t wait to try foiling next time we get a nice breeze in this direction! As usual there were loads of linnets and bunnies at Landguard Nature Reserve reaching the old jetty by the Orwell for our cuppa. We watched a container ship enter the docks, helped by two tugs but with a good breeze cutting out of the river it was a bit on the nippy side so we headed back to the prom. We did have to weave in and out of people on the prom with loads enjoying the early morning sunshine, also there were several open water swimmers, stand up paddle boarder, canoers and fishermen but sadly a large group of road cyclists were inconsiderately blocking most of the prom at The Fludgers! With the prom being busy instead of continuing to The Dip we cut across to Marsh Lane and out onto the farm track to Kings Fleet. Then up onto the quiet Deben path to Felixstowe Ferry, stopping to take some pics of the delict boats before stopping at the jetty to take in the view. It is not a great time to own a campervan at the moment as it looks like everyone and their uncle have one at the moment and we counted 11 vans parked up at one of our favourite spots at Bawdsey Quay, I think the locals will get feed up with it soon and overnight parking will be banned like it already has been in loads of spots we like! We continue past the sailing club past a chump in a noisy/smelly jet bike doing mindless circles in the river and spot a small yacht high and dry on the shingle bar. I think he grounded there on purpose for a few hours to enjoy the scenery:) The path past the golf club to The Dip was surprisingly quiet, thankfully. Then it was a quick trip to Tesco before home for breakfast. We had been out 3 hours making the most of the lovely weather, followed by exercises in the garden then we bike back down to the beach just past The Dip to have cream tea on the beach, very yummy it was too:)
